Khadija bint Khuwaylid (567–620) was Mohammad's first wife. She was an independent Arab businesswoman and merchant, and Mohammad was one of her trade agents. After two previous marriages, she proposed to Mohammad and married him and they were together for 25 years. She gave him shelter and support to develop a new religion.
